Joseph W. Mayo ALS Scholarship
Thank you for your interest in the Joseph W. Mayo Scholarship. This scholarship is named for the Clerk Emeritus of the Maine House of Representatives, Joseph W. Mayo.
In 2000, while serving as Clerk of the House, Mr. Mayo was stricken with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Friends of Joe Mayo have established this scholarship to recognize his contributions as a father, friend and public servant. This scholarship was established to assist men and women who are children, step-children, grandchildren, spouse, domestic partner or primary caregiver of an ALS patient.
The Joseph W. Mayo ALS Scholarship is awarded annually to a student (or students) who are attending a post secondary educational institution, including both 4-year colleges and 2-year associate programs. The student recipient must be a graduate of a Maine high school or GED program.
The Scholarship Committee and its representatives may require additional information and communication with persons who know the family and the applicant’s educational achievement and higher education aspirations.
The Joseph W. Mayo ALS Scholarship is formally awarded in December to assist with second semester expenses. All Applications should be received by May 1st.
