Individual efforts are responsible for determining important outcomes. In 1989, we initiated the contact banker program as a way to engage our members more directly in our legislative efforts. Each member of the Maine House of Representatives and Maine Senate was assigned a contact banker that could be contacted if questions arose. Additionally, contact bankers were encouraged to meet with their legislators to talk of matters concerning their communities and the financial industry. The program has proven extremely successful.
