More than 130 were in attendance at MBA’s 10th Annual Directors College October 19 in Augusta. Keynote speaker Karl Nelson (shown in photo) of KPN Consulting kicked the morning off with his discussion of “The Role of the Board Post-Banking Crisis,” a look at how Maine banks fared in the recent downturn and a look at director duties, hot buttons, committees, and trends and cautions in various types of lending. Throughout the rest of the day, representatives of FDIC conducted small group breakouts on examination topics such as compliance management, interest rate risk, community banking, information technology, monitoring the problem loan portfolio, and guidance for new directors. FDIC financial analyst Susan Levy provided an economic update during the luncheon. Below are handouts from the keynote, the economic update and the workshop sessions.
